Progetto Light Percussion

Il nuovo progetto del Lugano Percussion Ensemble ruota attorno al concetto di leggerezza. Le percussioni sono sempre state considerate come strumenti possenti, spesso legati ad un immaginario rituale se non addirittura tribale, in cui il pubblico viene trascinato dai ritmi frenetici della danza. Questo programma invece pone l’accento proprio sull’altra faccia degli strumenti a percussione: sul colore, sulla raffinatezza di timbri e sulla grande varietà di sfumature che è possibile ottenere. Affiorano anche qui ritmi incalzanti, ma in modo leggero, con tessiture sonore rarefatte, a volte velate. Accanto ad autori classici del repertorio come Steve Reich, trovano spazio altri autori a cui il LPE ha commissionato dei lavori specifici per questo progetto come Giacomo Platini, Luca Staffelbach e Mathias Steinauer. Lo strumentario dello gruppo va dagli strumenti classici, che il pubblico non avrà difficoltà a riconoscere, fino ad arrivare a strumenti inusuali, come quelli di pietra, che evocano epoche remote. Il Lugano Percussion Ensemble, con sede a Lugano, comprende un direttore e sei percussionisti stabili ed è spesso accompagnato da altri strumenti solisti.
La sua attività si concentra soprattutto attorno alla creazione di nuovi brani per questa formazione.

The Lugano Percussion Ensemble's new project is all about the concept of lightness. Percussion instruments have always been considered powerful instruments, often linked to ritual or even tribal imagery, in which the audience is swept along by the frenetic dance rhythms. The emphasis of this programme, however,  in on the other side of percussion: the colour, the refinement of timbres and the great variety of nuances that are possible. Driving rhythms still appear, but in a light way, with ethereal and sometimes subtle sound textures. As well as the repertoire’s well-known composers such as Steve Reich, other composers have been commissioned by LPE for this project, such as Giacomo Platini, Luca Staffelbach and Mathias Steinauer. The group's instrumentation ranges from the traditional, which the audience will have no difficulty recognising, to unfamiliar ones, such as stone instruments, that evoke prehistoric times.

The Lugano Percussion Ensemble, based in Lugano, consists of a conductor and six permanent percussionists who are often accompanied by other solo instruments. Its activity focuses mainly on the creation of new pieces for the ensemble.
