DEFY SILENCE
Poetry, Music and Translation in War and Exile
An evening with Rasha Omran, Kim Echlin and the music of Ashti Abdo
The garden of Palazzo Bracci once again hosts a special event of the Cantiere Internazionale d'Arte. A meeting with Rasha Omran and Kim Echlin titled Defy Silence: poetry, music and translation between war and exile. During the first part, some poems by Rasha will be read in Arabic, English, and Italian to highlight and give a taste of the different musicality of the three languages. In the second part of the event, Kim Echlin will discuss with Rasha the meaning of being a writer in exile and, in general, the political activism and how it may influence their writing. The music of Ashti Abdo will liven up the night, using instruments typical to Syria such as the saz, the sansula, the Kurdish tembûr, and the marranzanu.
